The first time my wife and I went to Scotland, we were mistaken for Scots. Boots, duffel coats, and wool. One man in Pittenweem thought we were from "Historical Scotland" to sign off on his home improvement project. When we told him we were Americans he literally said, "No you're not. Canadians, surely?" Nope. My dad comes around the bend in the narrow street, leprechaun beard and gray hand-knit sweater and cap, and the guy says, "Well, HIM, surely HE'S Scottish!" Nope.
