Welcome back. +100 on short rides: that's about all I do.
What exactly defines "short"? I say under 30 miles. Opinions?
Depends on how much prep is necessary for the ride. If you're going to
put on sunscreen, change into riding shorts & jersey & riding shoes,
anything under about 25 miles is IMHO a waste of time, especially since
it requires a shower when you get home to get the sunscreen off. (At
least, I have to - I'm sensitive to it, but with my lifetime sun
exposure history not using it simply isn't an option.) Even worse if
you're going to pack up the car and drive to the ride start. If
you're leaving from home and don't have to change clothes, shorter
distances are fine; short enough and you may not even have to put on
sunscreen (although I doubt that's the case in the New Mexico desert).
Patrick Moore, who just got back from a very pleasant 19 mile short
ride after getting pleasantly lost in the bosque.

No ride too small! I’ve been recovering this week from the brain

miles back from the Pikes Peak Highway gate (4th of July is a big
day for them, America’s Mountain, where America the Beautiful was
written).
