Rivendell is a bicycle company! A nice bicycle company, but still just a bicycle company. I bet this sort of thing sets Grant's teeth on edge.
That said, I have to confess I felt a little bit awkward, and no doubt bobbed and scraped a bit when talking with Grant 12 and 16 years ago about customs, in part because I wanted to gently insist on my own way to someone who knows much more about bikes than I do. Still, it's the same sort of thing, and I suppose I set Grant's teeth on edge. (The upshot of getting my own way, mostly, was that I missed out on a couple of details that would have made my customs even better, but there you go.) But I am much older and wiser now.
