Carbon fiber is very very very strong-- anyone who disagrees with that
is crazy. The problem comes from continued use and the little nicks
and scratches that develop over time until one day... BANG! Ok,
probably not BANG!, but at least Snap! and lets hope that you arent
riding downhill, in traffic, or in any of the other infinite scenarios
where failure could easily result in your untimely demise.

I think that what this video really demonstrates is that carbon fiber
is a great material for people who get free bikes and get to replace
them before there is any real danger. This is why race bikes will be
probably be made of carbon for a long time to come-- at least until
they find something lighter (and probably more expensive). Ten years
from now there will be new bikes that cost 50 grand and are made from
pixie-dust polymer-- I have seen the prototypes. The 56cm complete
bike weighs 8 ounces. I cant wait to get one! I am going to fly up
hills.

I think for "normal people", ie you dont get free bikes and/or dont
travel the world racing them as your actual job, bikes made of
materials that survive the real world abuse that "normal people" put
them though are the way to go.

Will there be hipsters riding old carbon bikes in 2039 like they ride
old bikes from the 1970's today? I highly doubt it.

Cheers!
cm
