Hi Nathan,

First question, where is the herniated disk? Cervical, Lumbar etc.

Have you gotten an MRI? This is best way to see the actual
impingement on the spinal cord. Statistically, 90% of these cases
will "resolve themselves" over time.

I broke my c-4 disk in 2002. I had to ride in an upright position for
3 years. Now I frequently ride in the drops with a Nitto Noodle Bar.
(So there is hope).

A couple of people I know in my bike club have switched to riding
recumbent bikes due to similar problems. After about 8 months, one of
the riders is now back on a traditional bike.

I now have a mild case of forminal stenosis . My spine specialist
thinks my condition would be much worse if I didn't bike. This
condition is genetic and is incurable. My brother and mother have the
same condition and had surgeries only to be in worse condition a year
after. I also will do pilates exercise periodically. This focus's on
core conditioning. I have found this to be back friendly and
strengthens my bike riding.

I found the best pain management item to be tylenol when flare ups occur.

Keep experimenting and be patient!
Chris
