That's funny. I end up with a workbench littered with those things and I've never quite figured out what they came from (well, I did suspect they were little spacers for chainrings, but never took the trouble to look closely.)
FWIW, I've never bothered to put them back on my two XD2s and I've never felt their absence, either with 8 or with 9 speed chains, either running them as triples or as middle 'n' inner doubles. If no one else has come through, I will be happy to look if you email me on Friday night. I'm not at home now to look right away.
