I'm using thumbies on the top of butterfly bars on a Surly Travelers
Check. They work fine but the jury is still out on whether I'm going
to continue with this arrangement. I used downtube shifters for most
of my life and then switched to Campy brifters about 5 years ago. The
experiment with the butterfly bars required trying a new shifting
mechanism. Reaching to the top of the bars while I've been riding on
the sides feels clumsy but I'm going to give it to the Fall before I
decide whether to go another route. The thumbies are well made and
have a very positive feel.
