Hi Paul,

I use Thumbies on my LHT with a Nitto Noodle bar :

The Thumbies take up a lot of real estate on the bar but I mounted another
stem with a short bar lower:

which has facilitated mounting a speedometer, bell and a very powerful
(adjustable, 3 level) LED flashlight. At times it can be difficult to read
the speedometer at that spot.

I do consider all of this somewhat of a kludge but I answer lamely, "It
works for me," and someday perhaps I will straighten it all out and make it
look nice but for now, using the LHT as a commuter, I am satisfied with the
result, if not with the form. It also worked fine last summer for short
tours where, for me, form is not even a factor. Results are all that matter
on tour - whatever works.

The flashlight is easily demountable - it is wedged into air conditioning
pipe foam wrap and then held (tied) tight with stretchy 1/8 inch elastic
line from West Marine. What I anticipate is that I will make a bracket to
mount the flashlight down on the front rack or maybe under the front rack
and it will look better. For now having the flashlight close, where I can
reach it to change settings as I ride, is a good thing because the setting I
use to start out (250 lumens) is too bright (for on-coming traffic) once I
am about 4 miles into my commute and I switch down to 90 lumens which is
still plenty bright.

I like this setup and I would do it again (I like Thumbies) but it does have
its obvious, superficial disadvantages in the configuration I have chosen.
In practice the disadvantages are of little negative consequence for a
result oriented rider.
