Perhaps it is a hand size thing...

I have large hands and find larger diameter bars more comfortable.  My
Atlantis has two+ wraps of un-shellaced cotton which I find more
comfortable than the single wrap on other bikes.  I also prefer wider
brake lever hoods.

Oury's are my favorite MTB grip; it appears they make a glow in the
dark verson now.  :-)
