Michael, tandems are wonderful! They equalize riding between unequal
riders, so there's no waiting or hard feelings or anyone getting exhausted.
If you and your wife ride at the same level (speed & endurance) it's not as
big a deal, but if one is significantly stronger, it's the only way to enjoy
the ride together. My wife ended up selling all her single bikes after we
got into tandems.

I'd try to find an older Santana model. Rio is one of them, can't remember
the others. We bought one used and loved it. Sold it for what we paid and
bought a Co-Motion Double Espresso. Again used, but it was an upgrade and
had 700C wheels. Tandems seem rather easy to find used it you're a bit
patient, and significantly less expensive than new. Most are sized S, M, L,
XL, so it's rather easy to find a good size for you.

I'd encourage you to jump on in, the water's fine!

Cheers,
DE
