Are you sure you mean "Varsity"? Have you ever ridden a Varsity or a
Collegiate? No, my friend, there is a huge difference between even a decent,
entry level bicycle and a Varsity or Collegiate. The Varsity is basically a
3d world roadster with drop bars and multiple gears and slightly less slack
angles. I know whereof I speak; I've built and ridden all 3 of them. One of
my first project bikes (not my first) was a AWX2 speed Benelux pull chain
rear derailleur Varsity conversion, complete with whitewall tires, aluminum
fenders, and home made Flit (bug spray sprayer in the days before aerosol
cans) black oil based enamel paint job, with hand pinstriping and home made
headbadge; circa 1971, age 16. I was vastly impressed by the improvement
when I sold that (150 Kenya shillings, at the time about $21.00) and bought
a Raleigh Sprite drop bar, half step 10 speed complete with cottered cranks.

The Varsity, the Raleigh Sport, the Pashley rod brake roadster, are all
retro technology that has been long, and vastly, surpassed. Give me a decent
aluminum Amsterdam any day.
