Are most of these "mechanicals" not flat tires? Aside from that, it's
pretty well known that the main difference between Dura Ace and
Ultegra is weight...you have to reduce weight somewhere and there's a
good chance it will make the piece of gear a little weaker. Now, most
of use don't generate near the amount of watts to even come close to
breaking Dura Ace derailures, so it's really not an issue for us. Most
of us would be just fine with 105 and it would last a lifetime...but
then so will a used Honda Civic, so why do we buy new Acuras or
Lexus'? (Lexi?) Becuase it makes up feel good to drive something just
a little upscale....it's the same with bike stuff in my opnion, we buy
that certain frame or wheelset or component because we have the means
and it feels good. But, in the end that used Schwinn Varsity would
have done just fine for our needs. (Nice Varsity in the other thread
BTW!)
