... and more jinxing.

Yesterday my pal  and I were riding up in Palo Alto Foothills Park  
when he experienced rapid rear tire deflation
on a steep climb.

Turns out he had ridden his tires till there wasn't any rubber left  
on significant portions of the rear wheel.
He replaced the tube and put ~ $20 in small bills between the tube  
and casing as a tire liner and we gingerly
descended Page Mill Rd at ~ 5 mph. All the way down  my pal could be  
heard muttering to himself, 'stupid, stupid, stupid!'
We went  to the nearest bike shop where a robust replacement tire was  
purchased.

A vow was made to always 'pre-flight' the bike before every ride.
