Riding in the snow is not that bad.  The problem in Chicago is the
streets for the most part are relatively narrow.  When you get over 18
" of snow without melting the plows leave ever larger piles of the
stuff along the sides of the streets.  Those piles freeze, basically
becoming unridable icebergs collapsing the riding space on the
street.  The result is bike and car are on the same lanes.  I am as
comfortable riding with cars as a biker should be.  Having cars
immediately behind me on ice covered streets is something I don't want
to become accustomed to.

Any how, we are finally getting a warm up.  That means ice rink
streets today.  But maybe by some time next week there will be enough
street to venture forth.
