I have no doubt that Grant/Riv will fix the frame as good as new, if
not better. However, I would like to correct this misconception that
carbon cannot be repaired. First, other have stated that steel can be
fixed in a closet in france or some such with a screw and hose clamp
and that carbon can not. That may be.
However, some carbon fiber frames CAN BE REPAIRED. There is at least
one carbon mfr that repairs carbon fiber frames. In fact, it now makes
up about 30% of his business. Craig Calfee of Calfee Design can and
does repair not only his own carbon fiber frames, but many others as
well. His website states that since 2003, he has repaired over 2100
frames and list many of the brands:
"Brands we've fixed:
Abici Orbea Cervelo Hed Zipp Trek Scott Specialized Look Ridley Kuota
Pinarello Giant Colnago Bianchi Wilier Fuji Corima Blue Reynolds De
Rosa Eddy Merckx Lemond Litespeed Time Javelin Cinelli Vellum Koga
Miyata Marin Ibis Isaac Guru Raleigh Klein Campagnolo Cannondale Felt
Jamis FSA Kestrel and more"
He does state that occasionally he rejects projects and warns:
"Frequently rejected repair requests are ones that involve aluminum-to-
carbon bonding, carbon handlebars, forks, and damage involving the
braking surface of carbon wheels."
