Interesting. Given that I am not [yet] experiencing this behavior, which has a retina display (mid 2014 15-inch MBP), it makes me wonder if there was some level of corruption in the upgrade to Office via the Autoupdate tool from MS. Unless both of you have much more recent hardware by chance...
