"--force" is an install option.

To remove an installed package on which other packages depend you need
"--nodeps"

eg. rpm -e --nodeps sendmail

$ man rpm
UNINSTALL OPTIONS
       The general form of an rpm uninstall command is

                rpm -e <package_name>+

[snip]

       --nodeps
              Don't  check  dependencies  before uninstalling the
              packages.
