Hi Benny,
                    We also faced this error when installed qmail scanner
with clamav, spam assassin in a Mandrake9.1 machine (Production Server).
This problem was attended by one my colleaque. I don't know exactly what he
did. But he was telling it was related to permissions. Some where in the
internet I saw that the clamd user must be same as qmail-scanner user. You
will also have to check the file permissions accordingly, ie. clamav files
having user as clamav should be changed to qmail-scanner user. Hope this may
help you in solving the problem. If you solve it, let me also know as I am
also trying to solve this in a test machine.
