In realtà non è questione di Emacs. Se per esempio provi Aquamacs (su MacOS X) che altro non è che il port di Emacs riscrivendo un po' della parte grafica, i caratteri hanno antialiasing e tutto. È fatto parecchio bene come cosa.
È così anche su Linux, basta installare Emacs-Gtk2 con l'AA abilitato.
