One more question. In the variables view, I can select a variable and right-click Clear Variables to delete that variable, but selecting more than one variable will not allow me to delete them. Is that by design? I have a few dozen to delete, so doing them one at a time is tedious. I would normally write syntax to do it, but it's easier to just find and delete them interactively if possible.

I think we'll need some help from a Windows developer on this one, because it works OK when I try it out here on my GNU/Linux desktop. Search-and-replace would be a nice feature, I agree.
