Hi Helen,

if this all does not work, you can install the pspp gui version also as a 
standard bundle
without macports. So that is the usual mac way:

http://www.hs-augsburg.de/~beckmanf/pspp-0.10.2-dev.dmg 
<http://www.hs-augsburg.de/~beckmanf/pspp-0.10.2-dev.dmg>

This bundle is for El Capitan, but it might work for other MacOS versions also.
