You're changing topics. Solar is not a cheap way to generate electric. The panels have a 25 year life and take up to 20 years (without tax credits) to pay back.
Passive solar for heating does work, however almost no new construction uses it. South facing windows and thermal mass like ceramic tiles and concrete are needed to make it work.
