Andrew,
Yes I should have qualified it to include direct speech not conversations
you are correct. However the software once running is extremely good and
streets ahead of the older IBM ViaVoice type software.

They claim about 98% accuracy but that is just a pipe dream and in effect I
have got up to about 85% consistently but you do need to have good recording
kit as background noise is a real killer.

I have used it to get the majority of a book I am writing into basic word
format as I can dictate it whilst I am doing other things with my hands
.....now, now naughty, naughty!

Whilst not getting everything it removed the burdon of the major bit of
typing, at least with standard text anyway. Application specific language
training however is a pain in the a*se to set up.

Dave

But from the Dragon site:

Q. Can I use Dragon NaturallySpeaking to transcribe interviews or meetings?

No, Dragon NaturallySpeaking is a speaker-dependent system, meaning that
it trained to recognize the voice of a single user and cannot
distinguish speech from more than one speaker. People have no problem
understanding both Aunt Grace, who has a high, thin voice, and Cousin
Paul, who has a voice like a foghorn, because people can easily adjust
to the unique characteristics of every voice. Speech-recognition
software, on the other hand, works best when the computer has a chance
to adjust to each new speaker. The process of teaching the computer to
recognize your voice is called "training."
