I tried passwording the web site and it did not overcome the problem of unpaid for updates. The website clearly states it is only to be used by legit and paid up users. I see no reason to now "reward" them by offering a discount. I send them a normal invoice. A few of them were surprised that i "knew" they had updated their system. One of them said "I've done it this way for 3 years". So I billed him 3 years.
The "tip" I offered was the ability for your system to send you email messages without end-user input.
