Then I remembered that the last tech I called had given me another number and a pin so I called that. Someone calling himself Oliver Brown answered in a thick Indian accent. "Oliver Brown" tried to test the thing over the wire and decided to send me a new modem, but the guidelines required approval. He talked to someone at "retention" and called me later to say they OKed it. So in 5 to 7 days UPS will deliver a new modem.
