And the sad part is, in this case Jesus goes out of his way to clarify the parable in Matt 13:18-23, and then to restate it from two different perspectives in Matt:13:24-32. But that's OK... The disciples were similarly slow on the uptake, especially Peter--or at least, he was the one who took the risk of trying to understand what Jesus was saying, and so Jesus' frequent bewilderment at their lack of understanding and subsequent explanations became a matter of record, to save us some puzzlement. I am just amazed that even with the clarifications and interpretations Jesus provided, people today still manage to completely blow it. I guess that's why he said "Let those who have ears to hear, hear it!"
