Tracy,
That's what I'm hoping for and believe will be the best solution. But,
if they can scan and the gun appends or prepends the same character to
the string in Notepad, then they'll just learn to type that extra
character...unless it's something like a chr(13) or chr(10) or null
value. At least that's my hope.
I've been dealing with client servers being down due to lightning storms
this morning and haven't had time to investigate the checksum or
appending a character in the scan gun options.
Thanks again to all!

NOW we're getting somewhere!
I also came across the idea that the barcode scanner may be able to
insert a "post" scan character...perhaps a null character at the end of
the string.
If they scan to Notepad, the null character does not show.
If they scan to my app, all is well.
If they type in a valid number, rejected.
That's getting really close to a solution.
Now I can hear them screaming "But the barcode is in a hard to reach
place!!!" Well, who put the label there?
Thanks Koen!
Mike
Mike,
Can you program the scanners to always send a specific keystroke after a
good scan?
