It really is the most American way. Do what you want. If someone fusses, try to come to agreement. If that doesn't work, prepare your court case. Why sweat something that may not even be an issue? You'll have plenty of time to decide your course of action if it becomes an issue. Of course, this attitude can't apply to everything, like experimenting with bomb-making next to an airport, but it applies beautifully IMO when there is no potential safety issue.
