I've not taken the official plunge into this, but I know a few have on Ubuntu using the free VMWare Player. One is running XP in the client. The other is using Windows 2000. From what I was told, both ghosted the original drive and restored it into VMWare. Then did a repair to get things running on the new hardware. I'd probably just install from scratch.
