OpenBSD is not going to be easy for a man with limited eyesight to keep running. I'd suggest the Vine derivative of Debian, except that most of the support for that is in Japanese. (Great for my kids, maybe, but their mother tongue is Japanese.) Also, I haven't cleared Fedora 12 off that iBook, yet, so I haven't really tried it myself yet, either.
