I use amavisd-new for the smtpd instances that receive authenticated

Are there any significant pros and cons in doing this as a pre-queue
filter (proxy) compared to doing it as a post-queue content filter?

I suspect that it doesn't really matter for a low-volume server like
mine, but I might have overlooked something.

(For unauthenticated mail from the outside, it will be a pre-queue
amavisd-milter setup.)

Thanks,

Pro is that users know immediately that their email has been accepted (or not), rather than being informed afterwards.

Con is that users might experience slow submission of emails, because amavis (calling clamav, SA etc) may take quite a number of seconds to decide whether to accept the incoming email. (This should not normally be a problem for unauthenticated mail where delays are standard.)
