I'm encountering an issue with Postfix. I have Postfix and Dovecot
configured to use virtual users from a PostgreSQL table. Dovecot is
responsible for storing emails and managing mailboxes. For some reason,
Postfix retains incoming mail in /var/mail.

postfix delivers local mail (mail to addresses in $mydestination domains)
by calling mailbox_command, storing them into /var/mail/$user is common on
many systems.

apparently either duplicates of your mail are created or you are not using
dovecot for mail delivery as you think.

how exactly do you route mail to dovecot?

This is an issue because as more
and more emails come in, essentially duplicates are being stored in
/var/mail, when it's already managed by Dovecot. Eventually, storage will
become a major issue.

Could someone please explain why this is happening to me? I'm not sure if
it's an intended feature or not, but I'd like to disable it and remove the
mail in /var/mail.
