Right now it's doing this for outgoing emails too, verifying the recipient
address, and I'm unsure if this isn't going to get us blacklisted because of it?

You probably have soft_bounce = yes. Also, if there is a temporary DNS problem,
Postfix automatically converts permanent errors to temporary ones.
