It never was a part of Postfix. This was from a third-party patch which never was accepted into Postfix, yet managed to gain a significant following somehow. Rule of thumb, if it's not found in the postconf(5) manual, it's not a valid Postfix setting. (That doesn't take into account user- defined variables and the possibility of transport-specific settings which are documented as default_* settings, but otherwise is pretty close to accurate.)
