occurs and thus no lost mail, right? [i.e. the sending MTA will retry the 
message up to its limits and then return a non-delivery to the sender.]

I'm fine, just as long as it doesn't [at least as much as is possible] get 
accepted [250] and then dropped/lost before it gets to the users inbox. So 
please confirm I'm understanding that correctly. A few failed tries, even a 
non-delivery notice - all fine. Blackhole - not fine. :)
