I've done a few searches and don't really turn up anything - so my apologies if
this is an "old" already answered question. [If you could point me in the right
direction for the discussion somewhere that would be nice...]

So, here's what I want, and I'm not sure how best to go about it.

Platform: Ubuntu with postfix, and dovecot.
Currently we use spampd [pre-accept spam-assassin filtering]

I'd been thinking of going to/adding amavis-new, since I could also do
attachment scanning, and quarantine etc. But I don't want to give up
"pre-accept" spam filtering since it's so effective.

I've seen suggestions for using amavis as a pre-accept filter, and turning off
the AV scanning. [But this defeats some substantial purpose of running amavis
in the first place.]

I've also seen warnings about using amavis as a pre-accept filter, since
messages can be completely lost. [And this is a large issue for any servers I
run; we *really* want to minimize the possibility of losing messages.]

So, what's the "best way" to handle this: I've thought about continuing to use
spampd for pre-accept filtering, and then amavis again as a post-accept filter.
[I suppose I'd want to turn off the SA portion of amavis then, since that would
be already getting done with spampd.]

But perhaps this is all the really wrong way to go about it. [Hardly an
unlikely possibility! :) ]

So, suggestions, warnings, or a point at a walk-through somewhere would be
useful?

TIA!
-Greg
