virtually all proper daemons are using syslog because
you can control that with "rsyslog.conf" or whatever
syslog-daemon you are using and the way logrotate
works is unified

logrotate is enough to use syslog because only rsyslog
needs a SIGHUP after rotate without interrupt/reload
any service

having each service managing his own logfiles makes
this terrible to control
