Ok, we need to troubleshoot this as Postfix isn't starting. What do you see in /var/log/mail.log after a similar line to what you pasted above? There should be a more specific error in there telling us what caused startup to fail. > so, at this point you are saying all I need to do to host my own email > is add tzo.com ( or whatever DNS service..) to point to my static IP and > I'm done? Pretty much. If you go with TZO, they do wildcard A records, so all you'd need to do is create an MX record in your TZO control panel, after you type in your public IP address. It would be something like mail.pcartwright.com with priority 10. Then, as long as Postfix is setup correctly, and you have TCP 25 forwarded from the public IP on the router to the private IP of your Postfix server, you should see the mail delivered to your Dovecot mailbox, again, assuming you have Dovecot setup properly. I can help you with the rest off list Paul as some of it may get OT really quick. *VERY IMPORTANT NOTE* Keep an alternate email account handy, such as Gmail, so you can get help here and on the Dovecot list if things aren't working correctly after you do the DNS cut over. -- Stan
