(I've installed PF on half a dozen Ubuntu boxes, with no hiccups significant enough to remember.) What I would say is that the differences between distros only involve setup and maybe maintenance, and do not involve performance, so that utlimately, what extra effort there is is only pocket change to sysadmins.
