It's possible that only your test is failing, and your sasl is actually working. If your sasl is really borked, there should be other errors logged by postfix. Check the postfix logs.

If some people are able to authenticate, then it's probably just your test that's broken.

I use dovecot for sasl, so I can't provide further help in debugging cyrus auth problems. Someone else will jump in if you post proper evidence.
