reason for having localhost.$mydomain, etc. in mydestination

Hi.

The default for mydestination = ${myhostname}, localhost.${mydomain}, localhost
Why does it contain localhost.${mydomain}?
And wouldn't it be a good idea to add the hostname (without the domain
as in $myhostname)?
