Response codes starting with 4xx are temporary errors, which means a sane client should retry for a reasonable length of time (usually a few days before giving up). Response codes starting with 5xx are permanent errors, which means that the sender should give up immediately as delivery is doomed.
An LDAP server going down will temporarily prevent mail delivery, but this should not cause any mail to get lost under normal circumstances, as the senders will just retry later.
In other words, under normal circumstances this error is nothing to worry about.
