The volume controls in the Squeeze Ctrl app should control the volume of whichever AVR zone is currently selected. My bet is that you have forgotten to turn on the rather cryptically named Squeeze Ctrl settings option "Preferences->Controls->Volume Options->Fixed Volume Send Command" as mentioned in the plugin's Wiki pages (see below). Also make sure you haven't turned on the app's "Hide Volume Controls" option. (Why would you want to do that anyway? :-) With those settings, you should be good to go.
