I am connected to the Internet via Ateneo de Davao's wireless hotspot2, if that is any clue to what is happening. So what is happening to my download? I can not even start it, since my laptop hangs every time I try.To give more details: At first, I was using Firefox to get to any of the sites that host the F-7-DVD. I was able, using Firefox, to ascertain the location (ftp.iij.ad.jp), but when I attempted to download, the mouse froze, the keys locked, and I could not do anything anymore. I waited some time before I decided to use the off/on switch on my laptop. I tried going to other sites, and each time, the laptop froze. I thought that it might be Firefox, so I used wget instead, using the following command in an xterm: nohup wget -c -i fed7-iij.url >& fed7-iij.log & Again, the laptop froze, and I had to use the off/on switch. I checked /var/log/messages, and I could not tell what caused the freezing. Here is a typical entry. This is just before I restarted the laptop: ******* start /var/log/messages ************* Jun 2 15:42:40 nkm54 gconfd (ambo-3313): starting (version 2.14.0), pid 3313 user 'ambo' Jun 2 15:42:40 nkm54 gconfd (ambo-3313): Resolved address "xml:readonly:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.mandatory" to a read-only configuration source at position 0 Jun 2 15:42:40 nkm54 gconfd (ambo-3313): Resolved address "xml:readwrite:/home/ambo/.gconf" to a writable configuration source at position 1 Jun 2 15:42:40 nkm54 gconfd (ambo-3313): Resolved address "xml:readonly:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults" to a read-only configuration source at position 2 Jun 2 15:42:41 nkm54 gconfd (ambo-3313): Resolved address "xml:readwrite:/home/ambo/.gconf" to a writable configuration source at position 0 Jun 2 15:42:41 nkm54 hcid[2505]: Default passkey agent (:1.7, /org/bluez/applet ) registered Jun 2 15:42:43 nkm54 pcscd: winscard.c:219:SCardConnect() Reader E-Gate 0 0 Not Found Jun 2 15:45:27 nkm54 syslogd 1.4.1: restart. I do not get these problems using the same laptop. I am thinking that the problem might be network related. What I do not understand is why a laptop running CentOS 5.0 would hang on attempting to download from a very busy site. P~Manalastas
