No hard or fast rule,  I have found 10GB as a nice round number.  They 
come in handy when you need to install a distro or two and eval them 
with some fairly large application package or make the partition a part 
of a LVM to grow your filesystems.  As opposed to commiting large 
partitions that are under utilized.
