Hi All, Yesterday I reinstalled Ubuntu 5.04. (Reinstalled cos I was tried xandros. xandros does not do an update from 2.0 to 3.0 on the fly. Need to download 3.0 iso and burn and other 'natak'. Go out goes the distro.)
For Ubuntu: Mouse did not work --> edited xorg.conf. (If ubuntu is said to be the desktop debian, I donno why it cant do a simple thing as detect the proper port/protocol?) Sound did not work --> Changed the settings from oss to alsa. (Same argument/comment as above.) Internet --> Booted to my favourite Win98SE and copied the n/w info, called customer care and got a URL, downloaded internet manager for linux, and voila! I am connected. After connecting to internet, I visited quite a lot of movies, songs, sex and game/software crack sites to mess up my system with virus etc. But the system is quite stable and is up and running. (Btw I have tried the same with Win98SE, but in vain. If anyone knows any site where one can surely catch a virus (for 98SE), let me know. I am hell bent to mess up the 98se system. 98SE too is very stable for me.) I had a crash in KDE. While updating the system, the system hung. Had to do a hard reboot. I am more comfortable with KDE. So went to the package manager and installed KDE. (Got installed in 4 hours.) A couple of questions for the gurus... *********I have 64kbps = 8KBps connection from sify. But I always find that the speed it shows is 15 to 17 KBps. Even FF shows approx 15KBps. Now is the base OS messed up and is showing wrong info, or is this speed the actual one? *********Btw, the title bar in KDE goes in for a toss after sometime. Does anyone have any solution? *********The kaffeine and totem movie players do not run the vcd files. Can anyone tell me which is the player that can run such files. Over the period of few weeks, I will be uninstalling all the duplicate s/ws. All-in-all a good experience. ~A. ___________________________________________________________ Yahoo!
