Hmmmm... I overlooked the LAN card completely. Got it mixed up with dialup 
modem. Anyway, if it's working fine for you then there is no issue. :-)

Oh all right. I wasn't aware about Ubuntu coming with GNOME as default. 
Haven't tried Ubuntu yet. I thought you were installing off the Ubuntu CD.
