AAMOF, I dont use transset. On GNOME/XFCE, composite and damage work right out
of the box. On KDE, the process is a little more complicated cuz kwin needs
patching in order to enable support for the extension. But that has been done
as well. Now it isnt that my box isnt usable when I use Composite. It just so
happens that the eye-candy isnt worth the performance hit. I was wondering if
anyone using a full fledged DE has been able to get Composite working at a
reasonably fast clip. I guess since you use it on openbox, you are in a
position to get it to work much quicker.

Well yeah...that option's mentioned in the NVIDIA docs as well...Did try that.
Again, I didnt find much difference but a drop in the framerate, which didnt
suit my palate much!!
