I have been running x.org for quite sometime myself. I just so happens that I 
decided to try the Composite extension for that extra eye-candy. Its only 
when I try transparency/shadow, that the system slows down. When I do 3-d 
stuff, I disable the Composite extension, so I havent really had an issue 
with performance there....
