i created transitional packages, as fabian suggested.

so why hasn't there been an ardour3-dbg_4.2~dfsg-1 package?
anyhow, if creating a debugging package is as simple as adding
  DEB_DH_STRIP_ARGS := --dbg-package=ardour-dbg
to the rules, there's no reason not to do it...
